How are you?

entry info: Crash Into Me | Life and Love | 2007-04-26 | 10 Comments »

525 minutes ago, I was thinking of something to blog about but to no avail. I ended up staring at the monitor blankly. So I gave up. Hay, wag na lang nga muna ako mag blog. I roamed around. Bloghopping. Twittering. Browsing.

Until I saw Alwell’s comment regarding my bandwidth. On the said comment, he added the phrase: How are you?. That made me think. Haven’t heard that question for ages. No one asks. Just like me, everyone else in this unfair mean world is soo preocuppied with whatever they are into to ask the question.

Common statements I encountered on a daily basis are YM Messages such as:

Tara, breakfast / lunch na!
Liz, pahingi PSD nito.
Liz, meron kang ganitong font.
Bye friends, uwian na.
Psst, favor naman…

That’s it. Short and quick. It’s a busy busy world out there.

There’s the call center agent spending 6 hrs. babbling & marketing products. A cup of noodles from Ministop for lunch. Or a hot eleven minutes quickie sex. A corporate lass who is working overtime to earn more…while on the other side of the world is a hopeless guy who is also busy loving her.

Different stories but all are in the same predicament – Busy.

Me1: So Self, how are you?

Me2: Ahm, me? I’m okay, I believe. There are so many things running in my mind lately like I wanted to do this and that, be like this and be like that, that’s why I’m trying really hard to work on it but I’m scared and paranoid, I can’t afford to lose every special thing and person in my life, I am tired of being in the state of waiting, and gahd, it’s taking forever, I’ve been waiting for answers to wishes and hopeless solutions, and you know what, I…

Me1: Ok, ok got it. Can you slow down? Insert periods. Breathe in. Breathe out. Stress yan. When was the last time you look at the stars in the sky?

Me2: Huh?! Stars. What stars?

Hay, have a break.

Dapat may version 2 ang twitter. para instead of “What are you doing?” ang tanong, “How are you?” na. Hehehe!

*Minutes after you’ve posted this entry*

I know how that feels, being too busy to ask people how they are. Being in my community (YFC/SFC) taught me that we should always take time to ask other people how they are and in the same time we should take time to ask ourselves/tell others how we really are — without stressing. :P Haha I think I might have a separate blog entry about this, with my “sugarcoating” tendencies and all, but that would be too long. :P

Haha so now I ask: How are you, Liz? =)

True, I remember there’s a prayer about slowing down, take time to smell the flowers..etc. Sad, but people nowadays forgot to ask that question. Lahat preoccupied!

Hehe, thank you. I’m fine and happy and busy lol.

that’s the standard greeting here.. “Hi, how are you”, “How’s your day?” and “How’ve you been”. standard answer “Good. and you?”, “Pretty good. how are you?”. Cashiers, waitresses, officemates (who i don’t know the name and very vaguely remember seeing around), etc. always *greet* each other that– in the hallways, bathroom, you name it. when i meet my classmates we always ask each other “so how’s work”, “how have you been” and “sup with you?” even though we’ve seen each other just 2 days ago. THAT is what i’ve learned here. heheheheh. but come to think of it, we never do this in the philippines….hmmmm. aren’t we (pinoys) supposed to be the “friendliest” people?

Fast-paced life na siguro talaga tayo ngayon noh? Parang as long as you see this person, you’d think na okay na siya. Wala na kasing oras (daw) to discuss or ask the “basics”. And I’m guilty rin sa ganito, hehe.

Kelangan ko atang kumustahin din ang sarili ko.

posts like this make me start to wonder whether everything we do is worth it if we start to forget to greet each other simply by saying “how are you?”

shari, di kaya time na mag-organize na ng outing para sa bloggers?? sa galera or kahit isang resort lang sa laguna, pwede na… :D
