Beating the Block

entry info: But That's Just Me | Design, Arts and Interiors | 2009-04-30 | 1 Comment »

Did you know that I made this current blog design for around an hour only? No brainstorming, just going  with the flow of instincts by adding a favorite stock photo, blend in some colors, font selections, additional drama then that’s it – all set and done.

But there are days when I just:

Sit
Stare
And draw a gradient square.

Then after 2-3 hours, I still have the same square plus some little boxes like shipping boxes.  Just like that,  plain square and empty boxes. The next thing I know – I’m doomed! Deadline is within the next hour.

So, how do I beat it?

First – well, I have to admit that most of the time,  since there’s a deadline,  I submit half-baked cakes :p Lagot! Just expect a revision the next day.

Second – I go to sleep (forget the deadline haha) just so I can totally clear my overloaded mind of life’s anxiety and half-baked ideas.

Third – a hug. For me it’s a refresher – a person, stuff toy or even just my pillow. I’m such a childish cuddly clingy cat (the 4 Cs!) hubby can attest to that :p (that’s why he miss me right now more than anyone in this world lol)

Fourth- I work on something that is outside design (actually outside the web world) if I’m at home – like maybe by cutting and cleaning my nails or washing the dishes or getting the broom to sweep all the negative elements around me.

Some common suggestions to beat the block usually includes: music, food, games, and inspirational websites — the problem tho is that they no longer inspire me. Maybe because they are no longer new and are already part of my daily routine. Music, for example, is already a commodity.

Also, I am not a fan of tutorials. It makes LazyLiz sleepy. I love learning things out of owido. Spontaneous, whatever attitude, sans the standards and happy accidents.

But that’s just me.

How about you? How do you beat the block?

Writer’s block.
Designer’s block.
Blogger’s block.

Uhm, is there such a thing Programmer’s block? (hmm, maybe?)  Hubby said – nose bleed na daw siya in Bahrain right now trying to solve problems and debug codes.  If only I have know-how of Oracle’s app and system programming, I’ll surely help him just so he can finish the project and go back home.

Ang kaso, I failed twice nga sa C++ eh. Lol. Wag nang mangarap sa Oracle. Heh.

    Hi Liz!

How do I beat the “designer’s block” (ugh, I’m really not a designer), I check out design sites for inspiration. Maya-maya ginaganahan na ko. hehe.

Which reminds me, I really have to start working on a new layout. It’s been a year na since my last update haha

We miss you! Kelan ka sasama sa kape kape dates?
